Cute Bon Voyage Gift Idea

Wish Your Favorite Cruiser a Sweet Bon Voyage

Red Anchor Jelly Belly Candy Tin

Need an idea for a cute little bon voyage gift for your favorite cruiser?

Zazzle has added custom Jelly Belly tins to their line up of products.  They come filled with your choice of mints, or any one of more than a dozen varieties of Jelly Belly candies.  The candy is gluten free and soy free/  It's kosher, too.

Not only that, they are available in half a dozen shapes and sizes, including rectangular, round, bean shaped, and an old fashioned candy jar shape.

There are a couple of color choices, too.  For instance, the rectangular shape (which has a hinged lid) comes in either white, or a metal color, and the round tin even has a peek-a-boo lid option.

80 Days til Ship-Rise

Six mornings a week, near sunrise, one or more cruise ships appear on the watery eastern horizon off the coast of east central Florida. As of this writing eight in all sail out of the rising sun into Port Canaveral, for either a 'turn around' or a call at our fair port.

In 80 days, that sunrise ship count will rise by one, as our sunrise sees the SUN rise over our horizon. She'll be making her first arrival at her new home port, coming al lthe way from across the Atlalntic.

That evening -October 16, 2010 - she'll sail from her new home on a seven night westeren Caribbean itinerary.

As there were for the first Port Canaveral sailing of the Freedom of the Seas and the Carnival Dreeam, I'm sure there will be plenty of locals on hand to bid her and her cargo of revelers a hearty "Bon Voyage" as she heads for her first port of call, Cozumel, Mexico. I'm looking firward to welcoming a new ship to our 'home fleet,' and barring any unforseen circumstances, I plan to be in that crowd that afternoon!

Bon Voyage!

Bon Voyage!

What does it mean?

Bon voyage is a French phrase that has been adopted into the English languagel. Although the literal translation is "good journey," the understood usage in English is usually "Have a good trip." And, while it can be used in reference to any trip, it's most frequently used in connection with cruising and other sea travel.

As a cruise ship leaves its port of embarkation, happy shouts of "Bon Voyage! can often be heard.

It's also not unusual for cruise gear, cruise gifts, or bon voyage gifts to be given to those about to embark on a sea voyage.

These can be anything from a small item that could be useful on a cruise, such as a travel sewing kit, a small pack of travel ginger candies to ward off motion sickness or a fancy lanylard and ID holder for the all important cruise card to a pre packaged bon voyage gift set.

The weeks leading up to a cruise can be so exciting, in fact, that some cruisers will even buy themselves a little bon voyage gift, such as the Bon Voyage to Me T Shirt, shown above.
